The paramedics arrive at the house to tend to Buffy. Xander does not know that Tara was shot. Tara is dead. Willow invokes the spirits that allowed her to bring Buffy back. But, they won't help this time as Tara died a natural, non-mystical, death. Willow attacks the spirits. Xander is going with Buffy to the ambulance when Willow walks out of the house. Xander tells her that Warren was the gunman. Willow walks off with a purpose.
Jonathan and Andrew are still in custody, but Jonathan is not coping well. Andrew is still expecting Warren to rescue them, or at least him. Warren has gone to a demon bar to boast about killing Buffy and to recruit a new gang. When the demons hear that Buffy is dead they laugh. They tell him that they've seen the TV news and Buffy survived. They advise him to get a head start before Buffy finds him.
Willow goes to the magic shop to draw the words, literally, and power from a book of dark magic. Dawn returns home to an empty house, except for Tara's body. Warren goes to see the Warlock from [S6-10 Wrecked] for protection from Buffy. The Warlock tells him that he is in far greater, and far more immediate, danger from Willow.
Buffy is undergoing emergency surgery, when Willow walks in telling the doctors to leave. Willow uses her powers to remove the bullet and heal Buffy. She takes Buffy and Xander to find Warren. Warren gets on a bus to leave town.
Willow directs them to the highway. She takes control of the approaching bus, stopping it, then orders Warren off. She tries to kill him, but finds out that it is a robot duplicate. Willow tells Buffy and Xander what happened to Tara. They try and talk her out of killing Warren, but she has made her mind up. She walks off and disappears.
Buffy and Xander return to the house to find Dawn siting in shock by Tara's body. Xander and Dawn both want Warren killed, but Buffy convinces them that they can't deal with humans as they would demons, that they have to protect Willow from herself. Buffy wants Dawn somewhere safe while she and Xander find Willow. Dawn chooses to go to Spike's crypt and Buffy agrees, despite Xander's (understandable) protest.
Willow uses Tara's blood off her blouse to locate Warren. Buffy and Dawn arrive at Spike's crypt to find he has left, but Dawn stays with his friend, Clem. Spike has gone to a demon to be restored to his pre-chip self. His worthiness will be tested before he is granted his request.
Anya can sense where Willow is, because of Willow's desire for vengeance, and she agrees to help Buffy and Xander find her. Willow is catching Warren in the woods. He swings an axe into her spine, but she just gets up and takes it out. He runs. He attacks her with a flying bomb and a substance that envelops her. Both attacks fail. She has the plants capture and bind him. Willow realises that Tara was not the first woman he killed and she conjures an image of his ex-girlfriend.
Buffy, Xander and Anya are close to finding them. Willow uses the bullet she removed from Buffy and magically pushes it through Warren's body towards his spine - shooting him in slow motion to increase the pain.
As the others arrive, Willow removes Warren's skin, killing him. Then she incinerates him. She says "one down" and disappears.
